Decision Science Lead

Shape the intelligence behind business credit decisions.

Business banking is built on good judgement. Good judgement is built on good data. We're looking for an experienced analytical leader to head up the Decision Science team supporting our Business Banking division — someone who can turn complex data into clear credit and risk intelligence, lead a high-performing team and make sure our analysis is always a step ahead of the business's needs. This role exists because the decisions that affect our business clients deserve the sharpest thinking we can offer.

What you'll do

  • Lead the day-to-day work of a Decision Science team — prioritising the pipeline, reviewing outputs and making sure everything delivered is accurate, relevant and decision-ready
  • Translate live business data into clear risk and credit insights that inform strategy across the Business Banking division
  • Set and uphold quality standards for analytical work — validating models, overseeing methodology and ensuring what goes to stakeholders and into production is sound
  • Work closely with business stakeholders to understand what they need, scope it properly and turn it into well-structured analytical solutions
  • Actively grow your team — coaching individuals on both technical skills and ways of thinking, and building a culture where people deliver their best work
  • Continuously improve how the team works — making processes more efficient and outputs more impactful over time

Our Decision Science team

We sit at the intersection of data and strategy — producing the credit and risk analysis that shapes how we manage and grow our Business Banking portfolio. We work with large, complex datasets and modern tooling, and our outputs go directly into the decisions that affect real businesses and their owners. The stakes are high, the data is rich and the business genuinely depends on what we produce.

Why this role is different

This role puts you at the centre of a strategically important and fast-growing part of our business. Business Banking is a significant area of focus for us, and the Decision Science team that supports it has real influence over how we lend, how we manage risk and how we grow. You won't be maintaining the status quo — you'll be helping to define it. You'll work alongside senior stakeholders, contribute to critical decisions and lead a team that knows the difference between analysis and insight. If you want scope, influence and a team to develop, this is worth your attention.

What we're looking for

  • More than 6 years' experience in an analytical or quantitative science role, with at least 3 years leading or managing a team
  • An Honours degree in Mathematics or Statistics — a Master's degree is preferred
  • Hands-on experience with predictive modelling, data mining and extracting data from large relational databases
  • Programming experience in one or more of the following: SAS, SQL, R or Python.
  • Software engineering experience is preferable, including writing maintainable, production-grade code and working with version control and testing practices.
  • A solid understanding of the credit lifecycle, including how credit decisions are made and managed in a business banking or retail lending context
  • The ability to manage stakeholder relationships confidently — translating technical work into clear business language
  • Familiarity with project management principles and a track record of delivering in a fast-moving environment
  • Strong people management instincts — you know how to set expectations, give honest feedback and help people grow
  • Sharp analytical, communication, planning and decision-making skills
  • Prior experience in a business banking or retail credit environment is a strong advantage
