Purpose Statement

  • Lead the independent second-line oversight of operational and material non-financial risks across the Group, ensuring risks are identified, assessed, managed and reported within Board-approved appetite, regulatory requirements and strategic objectives.

  • Own the Operational Risk Management Framework, taxonomy, policies and methodologies, oversee RCSAs, KRIs, loss data, material incidents, risk acceptance and control assessments, recommend and monitor non-financial risk appetite, limits and tolerances.

  • Oversee critical operations, impact tolerances, business continuity, disaster recovery and resilience testing, oversee outsourcing, third-party concentration, contingency arrangements and exit planning, challenge crisis preparedness and remediation of resilience vulnerabilities.

  • Provide independent oversight of new products, material change and innovation, lead horizon scanning, scenario analysis and thematic reviews,  assess non-financial risk implications of business strategy and transformation.

  • Govern material incident classification, root-cause analysis, loss attribution and escalation, conduct second-line thematic assurance and control reviews.

  • Report appetite performance, material incidents and emerging risks to the Operational Resilience Committee and RISCO, lead relevant regulatory engagements, inspections and submissions, set non-financial risk data, GRC-system and management-information standards.

Experience

Minimum:

  • At least 10 years’ banking experience, including 5 years’ experience in operational risk management, business continuity and integrated risk management 
  • Proven experience in engaging and providing specialist guidance on an executive level and / or with external steering committees.

Qualifications (Minimum)

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • A relevant degree in Commerce or Risk and Compliance

Qualifications (Ideal or Preferred)

  • Post Graduate Diploma in Commerce
  • Member of Institute for Risk Managers South Africa (IRMSA)

Knowledge

Minimum:

  • A thorough understanding of the regulatory framework as it applies to the financial services industry
  • Understanding of bank and business processes and functions
  • Knowledge of integrated risk management, regulations and industry standards.
