NATIVE MOBILE AUTOMATION IS A DIFFERENT DISCIPLINE. WE NEED SOMEONE WHO KNOWS IT FROM THE INSIDE.

You've built automation frameworks from scratch, worked across iOS and Android, and handled real-world challenges such as device fragmentation, biometrics, deep links, OTP and push flows.

Who we are

We're Capitec — South Africa's largest bank by client base, with over 24 million active clients and 14 million people who rely on our app every day. The app isn't a nice-to-have. It's how most of our clients experience banking. That gives what you build and test real stakes — and real reach. Our headquarters are right here in Stellenbosch, where this role is based.

What this role is about

This is a senior, hands-on role focused on advancing native mobile app automation across complex product environments. You'll shape scalable automation solutions, guide best practice and mentor others — without direct reports. You'll also apply sound judgement on when manual testing adds more value than automation.

What you'll do

  • Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines, quality gates, version control and reporting
  • Build web, API and service-level automation for complex and event-driven systems
  • Set coding standards, review automation code and improve framework performance and reliability
  • Track automation coverage and use results to identify systemic quality risks
  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers and represent automation in technical forums

What we're looking for

  • 5–8 years' hands-on automation testing experience
  • Proven native mobile app automation experience across iOS and Android
  • Strong Appium experience in production-grade environments
  • Experience with WebdriverIO and/or Playwright
  • Ability to design automation frameworks and strategy from scratch
  • Experience with cloud device farms such as BrowserStack
  • Strong web, API and service-level automation knowledge
  • Experience with CI/CD, databases, integrated systems and event-driven environments
  • Sound judgement on what to automate and what to test manually
  • A collaborative, hands-on approach to mentoring and technical leadership

Minimum education and experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field
  • 5–8 years' automation testing experience, including framework design at scale
  • Test Automation Certification advantageous

Technology exposure

  • Mobile: Appium, WebdriverIO — native iOS and Android, gestures, deep links, biometrics, OTP and push flows

  • Cloud devices: BrowserStack or similar platforms — parallel execution and device coverage strategy

  • Web and API: Playwright, WebdriverIO — API and service-level testing

  • Delivery: CI/CD pipelines, quality gates, version control and reporting

  • Systems: Databases, event-driven environments, test data management and containerised testing

Education (Minimum)

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology - Computer Science or Information Technology

Education (Ideal or Preferred)

  • Certification in AWS Practitioner or Development Studies
