About the role:

Level II Back End Software Engineer: The Level II Full Stack Software Engineer is an essential member of a dynamic, cross-functional team, contributing to every phase of the software development lifecycle—from concept and development to deployment and operation. At this level, engineers are responsible for designing, developing, testing, deploying, maintaining, and enhancing software systems and applications according to specifications, while adhering to established standards. They translate requirements from business or technical analysts and actively collaborate with the delivery team in design and problem-solving.

This role is integral to Capitec’s Live Better rewards program, managing the rewards system that calculates benefits based on clients' transaction spend. The system determines benefits according to the type of transactions performed by clients over a specific period, ensuring a rewarding experience for Capitec’s client

Our ideal candidate has:

• Grade 12 National Certificate (Minimum)
• A relevant tertiary qualification in Information Technology (Preferred)  

• 4+ years’ proven experience in full stack software development, project delivery and implementation (in relevant development technologies/language). Experience with Both front and back-end frameworks and technologies

Purpose Statement

• The level I Software Engineer plays an integral part in a cross-functional team dedicated to the full software development lifecycle, from concept, to development to deployment and ultimately operating of each product. At this level, software engineers are expected to support and collaborate with other Software Engineers and the delivery team, actively participating in problem-solving and contributing to the development and success of projects.
• The Back-end Software Engineer plays a crucial role in building solutions that offer optimum performance, reliability, and scale. They are responsible for writing and testing code for the development of the server-side components that power the application's functionality.

Knowledge and Experience

Experience:

• 1 years’ proven experience in back-end software development, project delivery and implementation (in relevant development technologies/language). Experience with back-end frameworks and technologies

Knowledge: 

• Has a working knowledge of the following:
• IT systems development processes (SDLC)
• Application development
• Programming foundations
• Basic Algorithms and Data structures
• Version Control
• Testing practices, unit testing and test-driven development
• Database systems and query optimization (e.g., SQL, NoSQL).
• Basic RESTful API design and integration.
• Familiarity with cloud computing platforms and services (e.g., AWS, Azure).
• Microservice and event driven architectures
• Deployment using kubernetes and containerisation
