Purpose Statement

  • To provide technical actuarial expertise in leading the actuarial and capital management of Capitec Life, a subsidiary of Capitec Holdings, supporting business strategy and objectives and complying with regulatory requirements
  • To be responsible for delivering solutions for Capitec-life to achieve its strategic objectives.
     

Education (Minimum)

  • Honours Degree in Statistics or Mathematics

Education (Ideal or Preferred)

  • Actuarial Society of South Africa Technical Member (TASSA) / Actuarial Society of South Africa Fellow (FASSA / CERA)

Knowledge and Experience

Experience
MINIMUM:

  • At least 5 years’ actuarial experience within a technical actuarial role
  • Stakeholder relationship management practices and principles
  • Experience of working on multiple projects for various parties simultaneously and working with a team
  • with multiple deliverables
  • Experience of a high performance environment, working to tight deadlines and under pressure.
  • Some experience working with statistical/actuarial software

IDEAL:

  • Quality management principles and practice
  • Experience of providing technical and functional mentoring and coaching and oversight of a  team
  • Experience of working on multiple projects for various parties simultaneously and working within a team with  multiple deliverables.
  • Proven track record of independently completing and delivering projects

Knowledge
MINIMUM:

  • Some knowledge of actuarial principles, standards, tools, systems, models and methodologies.
  • Knowledge of insurance industry dynamics, competitors and products.
  • Familiarity with regulatory and legal requirements in insurance.
  • Understanding of commercial, business and financial principles and practices.
  • Familiar Governance and risk management principles.
  • Some knowledge of statistical/actuarial software

IDEAL:

  • Business case conceptualisation, principles and compilation
  • Elements of a Balanced Scorecard for an insurer.
  • Some knowledge on client experience (design thinking, journey mapping, etc.)
