About The Role/Team
Our Model Risk & Insights function plays a central role in driving responsible and compliant banking practices. The function’s structure enhances independence, transparency, and oversight, while providing strong support for model risk management across the bank. You’ll be part of a highly skilled team reporting directly to the Head of Model Risk and Insights, with strong collaboration across validation, modelling, and risk teams. We are seeking a Lead: Model Governance, Monitoring & Oversight to lead and drive our governance, compliance, and oversight processes across the bank’s model landscape. This role is pivotal in ensuring that all models are not only fully compliant with regulatory requirements but also continue to deliver sustainable business value. In this capacity, you will serve as a key link between technical model validation and broader governance, monitoring, and compliance functions, ensuring alignment with Basel, IFRS 9, and RDARR (BCBS 239) standards.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Lead responsibilities: Own the governance, monitoring, and oversight of adherence to the Model Risk Policy and Model Risk Management Processes & Standards. Maintain currency of standards; lead annual reviews/updates of key artefacts (e.g., Model Risk Policy, MTSC Charter, Validation Standards). Drive resolution of validation outputs with modelling teams and ensure execution of appropriate actions. Build and embed frameworks, practices, and routines—including robust records of discussions and approvals.
- Model oversight, reporting & escalation: Oversee remediation of models identified as risk; ensure risks are recorded, actioned, and reported per policy. Classify materiality, manage timelines, and escalate as needed. Engage with development teams to set action plans and verify evidence of closure and compliance. Optimize JIRA Service Desk and ensure effective reporting.
- Model maintenance: Oversee model inventory and metadata quality (e.g., in Collibra), ensuring conceptual soundness and policy compliance. Stay current with RDARR standards to maintain risk data aggregation and reporting quality; implement data quality processes, training, and compliance monitoring.
- Model monitoring & analysis: Design and implement a structured monitoring framework post‑deployment. Define performance metrics, thresholds, and monitoring plans with model owners; track performance/usage and escalate deterioration or non‑compliance. Support periodic review/recalibration and ensure documentation of results; integrate insights into model risk reporting with clear recommendations.
- MTSC support: Plan and manage weekly MTSC sessions, ensuring stakeholders are prepared and documentation meets standards. Maintain governance records, track action items to timely completion, provide updates to stakeholders, and lead meetings/presentations as required. Conduct technical reviews of model documentation for compliance with the Model Risk Policy.
What We Are Looking For
- 5+ years’ experience in model risk management, quantitative analysis, or decision science, with practical exposure to end-to-end model development, predictive modelling, and a variety of modelling techniques.
- Banking Expertise: Solid understanding of banking regulations (Basel, IFRS 9, CBS 239, RDARR principles).
- Governance Knowledge: Strong background in model governance, validation, monitoring, or oversight functions.
- Technical Skills: Experience with model and data governance tools (e.g., Calibra), data monitoring, and reporting (Power BI).
- Collaboration: Ability to work across multiple stakeholders in a regulated banking environment.
